Robert Elliott
Clinical Vascular Scientist
I have Masters degree in Medical Engineering and Biomechanics from the University of Leeds as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Vascular Ultrasound. I have been a Clinical Vascular Scientist since 2007, becoming accredited through the Society of Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland (SVT) in 2011. I carried out my training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and since 2012 I have been the department lead of the Vascular Studies Unit at Addenbrooke’s. In that time I have independently carried out and interpreted thousands of vascular duplex ultrasound investigations, of both arteries and veins throughout the body, working closely with a range of consultant vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, specialist registrars and vascular specialist nurses.
In my time as lead and I have overseen multiple members of staff complete their training towards accreditation through the traditional SVT route and via the Health Education England Scientist Training Pathway (STP) route, as well as being a clinical supervisor for trainees completing Masters degrees in Vascular Ultrasound. I have also been a guest lecturer in vascular ultrasound at Anglia Ruskin University. Further to this I have been an external examiner visiting multiple hospitals to assess the competence of vascular scientists attempting to gain accreditation. I am also a clinical skills trainer and assessor for the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme, who visit community locations to screen 65 year old men for abdominal aortic aneurysms.
