Vascular Scanning at East Anglia Ultrasound Services

Vascular Ultrasound Scans are a safe, non-invasive and invaluable imaging modality that will detect circulation issues involving the arteries, veins or both systems in the body. Arterial and venous insufficiency results in abnormal blood flow and function of the brain, organs and limbs.

This is currently the most frequently used method in the study of venous disorders. It is estimated that 70% of the population in Western societies has some level of pathological changes in the venous system.

How does this concern us?

The main risk factor for this is the modern way of living with an increased sedentary lifestyle, limited activity, obesity, working in confined spaces, etc. Severe venous disorders can lead to a significant deterioration in quality of life and increase morbidity and mortality rates. Vascular Ultrasound can also be used to screen family members who have a history of severe health conditions such as aneurysms or strokes and can be useful to rule out acute or chronic conditions such as a DVT.

Vascular Ultrasound enables medical professionals to assess vein and artery patency. This is an imaging method that checks for thrombosis, varicose veins, the presence of atheromatous lesions and venous insufficiency, etc.

A referral will help to determine root causes for swelling aching, itching burning, cramps, pain, heaviness, restricted mobility, numbness, tingling, weakness, visual disturbances or non-healing wounds. These Ultrasound Scans are a great starting point for a treatment plan to remove the cosmetic appearance of varicose veins and their symptoms.

Most of the time, the symptoms of blocked arteries or veins are not noticeable. Getting the appropriate referral and timely assessment is not always possible. To get your life back on track or have that peace of mind, a simple screening test may be advised before complications lead to a potentially life-threatening issue.

This scan does not require any preparation. It is advised that the patients are examined when they are rested, without having exercised before. Throughout the scan, you will be in a supine or standing position.

You will receive your results on the same day of the appointment.
