Scans for women

(Pelvic)

A pelvic ultrasound scan is a non-invasive imaging that uses sound waves to create images of structures and organs in the pelvic area. The organs that this scan examines include the uterus, cervix, endometrium, both of the ovaries, adnexa and recto-utero pouch, fallopian tubes (which can only be identified if dilated or swollen) ,ureters and bladder.

This technology allows us to detect or exclude pathologies and anatomic abnormalities like ovarian cysts, uterine masses, congenital uterine anomalies, ovarian masses, polycystic ovaries, tubo-ovarian masses, signs of PID, endometriosis, adenomyosis ,uterine fibroids, cervical and endometrial polyps, as well as assess follicle counts that may offer insight on a patient’s fertility.

The 3D Ultrasound is an advanced imaging tool that enables Specialized Sonographers to evaluate the exact location of IUCD and to exclude uterine anomalies.

2D/3D Pelvic Scan (Transabdominal and Transvaginal)

This is an ultrasound scan to rule out congenital anomalies of the uterus and endometrium.

This is also to assess, the ovaries, cervix and excludes other adnexal pathologies, and to assess the position of coil or intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD).

One of the investigations to indicate the reason for pre and post-menopausal abnormal bleeding. Furthermore, this is a routine scan to monitor the thickness of the endometrium for women on HRT.

This is also an initial imaging to assess any indication of adenomyosis and endometriosis.

A combined approach with both transvaginal and transabdominal imaging provides a more comprehensive visualization of the internal female reproductive organs.

Transabdominal ultrasound scan: You are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids before the procedure. During the examination, a conducting gel is applied over your skin and a transducer (a small handheld device) is moved over the lower belly.

Transvaginal ultrasound scan: You are encouraged to empty your bladder before the scan ( following initial transabdominal scan). During the examination, a small probe is placed into the vagina with a single-use latex-free probe cover and sterile single sachet KY jelly is use as a lubricant to examine the cervix endometrium, ovaries and uterus. This scan is results to evaluate the thickness of the uterine lining, presence of cysts, lesions and other abnormal growths. This is a painless procedure but if you do not wish to have this part of the scan, please let the sonographer know. (You can have this scan even if you are bleeding or having a normal period)
