Neck Ultrasound Scan

An ultrasound scan to assess the thyroid gland, sub-mandibular parotid glands, lymph nodes and other palpable sensation of mass in the neck. This is painless, non-invasive and safe imaging method .

Why the Test is Performed

A neck ultrasound is usually done when physical exam shows any of these findings:

• You have a growth on your thyroid gland, called a thyroid nodule
• The thyroid feels big or irregular, called a goiter
• You have sensation of palpable mass in your neck

How the Test is Performed

You lie down with your neck on a pillow or other soft support. Your neck is stretched slightly. One of East Anglia Ultrasound Specialist Sonographers applies a water-based gel on your neck to help transmit the sound waves and bounce back to produce the images for interpretation.
