Ultrasound Scan for Hernias

Abdominal wall hernias are a common clinical problem. Sonography is an accurate means of identifying abdominal wall hernias when clinical diagnosis is uncertain.

An ultrasound scan not only can detect hernias in other cases which the clinical findings are non-specific, it can also accurately characterize features of an individual hernia that impact treatment. Sonography can determine the anatomical location, contents and complications such as an incarceration, bowel obstruction, volvulus and strangulation.
